  • MCS&C Joins the American Go Association

    Effective 9-10-15 the Monmouth Chess School and Club has become a Chapter of the American Go Association (AGA) under the name "The Monmouth Chess and Go School." Dr. Koblentz will teach a new class "Go for Beginners" Sundays from 1:30 - 2:30 PM. Students may play practice games either before or after class. For students actively enrolled in both Chess and Go, with good attendance in Chess, the Go tuition is greatly discounted (see Dr. K). As with chess, there will be an ongoing Pyramid Tournament plus AGA-rated tournaments.

  • Club Is Now Open to Go, Weiqi, Baduk! (Updated 9-12-15)

    The club is now open to play of the ancient board game Go, Weiqi and Baduk (the three names for the same game in Japan, China and Korea, respectively - when we say "Go" we mean all three). The club has recently joined the American Go Association and plans to offer AGA-rated tournament play. The American Go Foundation (AGF) has generously donated a number of sets now in use in the club.

    Dr. Koblentz and Kevin Dresher are playing in the U2100 section; Allen Anthony and Peter Stegner are playing in U1800.
    Players may still sign up for the two-day format Saturday morning by 10 AM on site.

  • NO CLASSES- CLUB CLOSED OCT 28

    The Club is Closed All day Sunday, Oct 28 for RBC Open House.
    However! We will have the Halloween Bughouse Party the following week Nov 4 at 1:00 PM.
    All students and club members are invited to attend this fun event!!
    Refreshments will be served.

  • UCSF Memberships

    Membership in the United States Chess Federation (USCF) is required for participation in any "USCF-rated" event. This includes all Monmouth Chess School and Club (MCS&C) Class tournaments, Club tournaments, Open tournaments and Scholastic tournaments. USCF membership is not required for casual club play, bughouse tournaments, simultaneous exhibitions or the ongoing Novice "Pyramid" tournament posted on the cork board. USCF Memberships may be obtained by contacting Mrs. Koblentz or Dr. Koblentz all the way up to the end of Registration for the USCF event.
