Group Lessons - Schedule
Sundays: 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 AM:
January 10, 17, 24 and 31 – Four lessons
February 7, 14, 21and 28 – Four lessons
March 7, 14, 21 and 28 – Four lessons
April 4 – closed Easter Sunday
April 11, 18, 25 and May 2 – Four lessons
May 9, 16, 23 and 30 – Four Lessons
June 6, 13, 20 and 27 – Four lessons
Group lessons are offered at several levels, with classes organized according to student skills and experience:
___ Beginner - Sundays 9:00 AM.
For students who have never played chess before or who may know how the pieces move but have limited experience. Covers everything needed to get started playing. How the pieces move, check, checkmate, stalemate, castling, pawn promotion, capturing en passant and other important rules of the game. Principles of development and values of the pieces. Basic checkmates. Free play following class.
___ Novice - Sundays 10:00 AM.
For students who have advanced from the Beginner Class or have equivalent skills. Introduction to the tactical elements, ideas behind the standard openings, middlegame concepts and endgame principles. Introduction to chess notation. Following class students play against one another. Approximately once per month an optional tournament will be held between class members.
___ Intermediate - Sundays 11:00 AM.
For students who have advanced from the Novice Class or have equivalent skills. Covers more comprehensive and complex tactics, endgames and openings. Introduction to positional concepts and middlegame strategies. USCF Membership is encouraged for this group. Approximately once per month an optional tournament will be held between class members using score sheets and clocks.

All group classes are offered in blocks of four lessons for $60 (children 17 and Under) or $68 (adults 18 and over), payable in full at the time of registration. There is no option for payment of one-at-a-time, "as you go" group lessons. Missed classes, while sometimes unavoidable, are discouraged. There are no refunds for missed classes. A student missing a class may audit the next available class, although the audited class may be at a different time than the student's normal time and the material may be at a different level. Alternatively, with 24 hours advance notice students may credit an absence towards the next block of four classes.
