On June 25, players from the Monmouth and Ocean Counties surrounding areas competed in the first of a series of scholastic tournament sponsored by Monmouth Chess School and Club. Both USCF-rated and unrated players played for medals and book awards. The rated section Gold medal was won by Sam Kuciej, who also won a $35 chess book prize. Silver medals were won by Kevin Lu and Charles Jiang. In the unrated section the gold medal and book prize was won by Theo de Quillacq; Silver medalists were Gabby Recalde, Thomas Wong and Sidhu Arakkal; Bronze medalists were Dylan Fitzgerald, Judy Cusack, Michael Wong and Vaughn Battista.
